Historic Theaters

Colfax County is home to several historic theaters that have significantly contributed to the region's cultural heritage. These venues have served as vital hubs for the performing arts, showcasing everything from live theater and music performances to film screenings.

Isabel Castillo School for the Performing Arts

Isabel Castillo School for the Performing Arts in Raton, New Mexico, is a dedicated institution fostering creativity and talent in the performing arts. Housed in a historic building, it offers a range of programs in theater, music, and dance, nurturing the skills of aspiring artists. The school not only provides quality education but also serves as an event center.

El Raton Theatre

The El Raton Theatre was built in 1929 as an atmospheric-style theatre, in the style of a medieval Spanish castle. In August, 2006, the theatre was listed on the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties. The historical is now under new ownership and is being renovated for the future as a multi-use space for movies and events.

The Shuler Theater

The historic Shuler Theater in Raton, New Mexico, has been a cultural landmark since its opening in 1914, showcasing a stunning Beaux-Arts design. Originally a vaudeville house, it has evolved to host a variety of performances, from live theater to concerts and film screenings. Today, the Shuler Theater remains a vibrant hub for the arts, fostering community engagement and preserving the town's rich cultural heritage.
