Early mornings, mountain backcountry, and wide-open ranchland! Fall hunting in Colfax County comes with plenty of scenery along the way. From private mountain hunts in Angel Fire to ranch camps near Cimarron and guided experiences outside Raton, here are a few options to explore this October through December.

Angel Fire Resort — Angel Fire

Spend your days hunting private mountain terrain and your evenings enjoying catered dinners and a comfortable place to stay. Angel Fire Resort’s guided packages include guide service and a private landowner permit, with lodging and nightly dinners from Elements.


The resort currently lists these 2026 packages as available:

  • Bull elk rifle hunt | October 10–14: Five hunting days, six nights in a private residence, and nightly catered dinners. $8,250 plus tax per person.

  • Cow elk hunt | November 9–11 or November 16–18: Three hunting days, four nights in a private residence, and nightly catered dinners. $3,000 plus tax per person.


These packages are listed for bookings of two hunters, with prices charged per person. New Mexico hunting licenses cost extra. Call 800-633-7463 to confirm openings and make arrangements, especially for the October hunt coming up soon.


NRA Whittington Center — Raton

With 33,300 acres of rocky hills and rolling plains, the NRA Whittington Center offers a hunting trip with lodging, meals, guides, and on-site transportation arranged through one destination.


Packages within the October–December window include:

  • Guided bull elk hunt | October–December: A one-on-one guided hunt lasting up to five days. $12,500, excluding hunting license fees. Specific dates and remaining openings must be confirmed with the center.

  • Guided cow elk hunt | December: A one-on-one guided hunt lasting up to three days. $3,500, excluding hunting license fees. The advertised season runs December–January; ask about December 2026 dates.


Both packages include on-site lodging with kitchenettes, meals, snacks, an experienced guide, and transportation during the hunt. Call 800-494-4853 for reservations and available dates.


ElkBros Adventures at Chase Ranch — Near Cimarron

For a traditional hunting camp experience, ElkBros Adventures offers rifle elk hunts on the historic 11,000-acre Chase Ranch. Expect varied terrain, rustic bunkhouses, home-cooked meals, and time spent with guides who emphasize learning throughout the hunt.


The ranch’s published 2026 schedule lists these upcoming five-day rifle hunts:

  • October 15–19

  • December 1–5

  • December 7–11

  • December 13–17


The camp includes bunkhouse accommodations and showers, with lunch and dinner served daily and coffee and snacks before heading out. Hunters should bring their own pillow and sleeping bag. Vermejo — Raton

For visitors interested in pairing a guided hunt with a comfortable ranch stay, Vermejo is another destination to explore. Its accommodations range from guest rooms and cottages to historic residences, with meals included in stays.
