102nd Maverick Club Rodeo

A Cimarron tradition since 1923, the Maverick Rodeo brings a full day of classic events like bronc riding, barrel racing, team roping, and wild cow milking. With cash prizes, youth events, and a rodeo dance the night before, it’s a true small-town celebration of grit, community, and cowboy spirit.


Cimarron 4th of July Parade

Spectators line the field in pre‑dawn light to watch the vibrant ascension and soak in the small‑town charm and mountain views that make this event an unforgettable summer tradition .


Raton Lemonade Day

Raton's annual Lemonade Day empowers young entrepreneurs as they run their own stands, learning business skills while brightening the community with their smiling faces and refreshing drinks. Each stand represents hard work and creativity of the youth, and locals flock around town to support these budding business owners and sip summer lemonade infused with hometown pride.


Fish Printing at Sugarite

July 5 from 4-5 p.m.

Sugarite Canyon State Park


In this craft-style workshop, kids can create their very own fish prints using a cool art technique called "gyotaku" the traditional Japanese way of printing fish! We also look at the different species of Fish in New Mexico. You don't need to be an expert artist to enjoy this fun and easy activity. Wear old clothing - you may get dirty. The program will be held near the Visitor Center The program is free, but the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for all vehicles. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass/permit.


What's That? It's A Bat!

July 5 from 4-5 p.m.

Sugarite Canyon State Park


You may see a small figure dance through the night skies here at the park. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a bat! The only mammal that flies! Come to the program and hear of the myths, legends, and facts of the bat. At the Visitor Center The program is free, but the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for all vehicles. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass/permit.


Coffee with a Ranger at Sugarite Canyon

Got a Question for a New Mexico State Park Ranger? Get an answer at this Coffee with a Ranger event at Sugarite State Park's Lake Alice Campground on May 24th! We'll discuss events and programs in the park and the surrounding area, or anything you've always wanted to ask a ranger. Coffee and doughnuts (while they last) are served! The event is free, but the regular Park Entrance Fee applies. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass/permit.


Moonlight Hike at Capulin Volcano National Monument

July 5  at 8:30- 10:30 p.m.


Join a Ranger for a moonlight hike of the Volcano rim! Subjects include night time biology, lunar geography, astronomy, and the park after dark. Reservations required. Call 575-278-2201 for information and reservations. 


Useful Knots for Camping in Sugarite

If you are tent camping, you probably had to use ropes in some way to set everything. Come learn a few basic knots that make your camping trip much easier and more fun. Starts at the Soda Pocket Campgrounds The program is free for NM Residents and the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for out-of-state residents. Night sky viewing starts at 8:30 p.m. Follow the red lights from the Visitor Center to the observing area. Wear warm clothing.

40th Annual High Country Arts and Crafts Festival

The Overground Angel Fire Skate Festival

A free two-day festival featuring live music, art, and skateboarding. Performances include acts like Homeboy Sandman, Cayuga All Stars, Poikai Biggs, and more. The skate area includes a revamped Thrasher Death Match mini ramp, demo U-ramp, and a giant skateable sculpture, with contests, clinics, and open sessions all weekend.
